Warden's grandaughter visits Sligo Gaol from USA
Last weekend we had a very interesting visitor to the jail. Whilst on holiday in Ireland American Patti Hawkins discovered that her grandfather Arthur Jones had worked as a prison warden at Sligo Gaol.
He had joined the prison service working in Mountjoy Prison, after serving in the army during World War 1. On a visit to Mountjoy the archivist there confirmed that Arthur had been transferred to Sligo Gaol in 1925. It was a pleasure to show Patti and husband Dwight around the jail where her grandfather had worked.
