Convict Cowboys!

Here are some photos of the amazing original graffiti that adorn the walls of the cells of Sligo Gaol.

Prison graffiti is an important record of prison life. Names and dates are often scratched into walls and images reflecting the feelings of the prisoners during their incarceration. Boredom was a motive but also prison graffiti was an expression of defiance of the prison system or as a political statement. At Sligo one of the prisoners had a fascination with cowboys and carved some wonderful images on the cell walls.
